Press the pencil icon on the upper right of the screen.
In Notability
Press the pointed hand icon in the toolbar on the upper center of the screen.

Before starting, one of the apps you want to place in splitscreen must be in your dock. To do that, drag the app from the homescreen to the dock.
How to place apps in splitscreen:
Open the app you want to place in splitscreen that isn't on your dock.
Slide your finger from the bottom to bring up the dock.
From the dock, press and hold the other app you want to use.
Drag the app to left or right edge of the screen until a black space appears.
Release your finger.
Your can adjust the size of the app by pressing the middle of the partition between apps.
To exit splitscreen, drag the partition to the left or right.
